Art of the Menu

UnderConsideration just launched yet another division with Art of the Menu to feature menu design from around the world.  This one is worth bookmarking along with Brand New, FPO and Quipsologies.

Going past the aesthetics, the best menu design is actually a science in guiding the patron into purchasing the stars (popular money makers) and away from the plowhorses (popular, but expensive for the restaurant).  Read The Science of Menu Design posted here a year ago.

“If I Had A Heart I Could Love You”

Mixed media sculpture and student at London’s Royal College of Art, Malene Hartmann Rasmussen created this art installation for her final based on “how we perceive the world, twisting and changing the perception of the space to create an eerie surreal and otherworldly feeling.”  Other projects of hers worth checking out: Cellar Door and Squirrel Gun.

Dust Project

In an effort to shift from commercial to artistic work, photographer Ujin Lee captured a series of images of dust frozen in time as a visual symbol of life.  I would love to know how he technically captured these images.

On an unrelated note, check out this post on my site to see a working demo of my new jQuery Tumblr Photoset plugin.  This plugin lets you to maintain Tumblr’s awesome new photoset layout options at virtually any size—from 100px to 1000px wide.  You can also see this plugin in action on the Inspire Well theme, and by the end of the week it will be in use on all the other Style Hatch themes.  I’ll post more details on the plugin when I release it later this week.
